Campion School started as an all boy's school in July 1965 by Reverend Father E F More and the members of the Society of Jesus, Bombay, a Roman Catholic Religious Order called the Jesuits.Fr. E F More, a Spanish priest ,was earlier the Principal of Campion School Mumbai from 1951 to 1965 before coming to Bhopal.
The school made a small start with 150 students with VI, VII and VIII standards. A total of 5 sections and just 10 teachers was the start up of this great institution. The school was initially started in a new building built by Father More now called Seva Sadan. It moved to another temporary location in Sector 4 of Arera Colony in July 1967, now known as Old Campion School.
It was the vision and untiring efforts of Father More that Campion moved in 1974 to its present sprawling campus of 48+ acres with nearly 4000 students. The story goes that it was the then Arch Bishop of Bhopal , Dr. Eugene D'Souza , who hand picked Father More from Bombay to start 'the first and Bhopal's best' all boys' school.
During his first visit to Bhopal Fr. More fascinated by the calm peace, tranquility and natural beauty of Bhopal agreed to the challenge of starting a new school from scratch. A tall order indeed , for any Principal at the age of 58 and that too in a city where he was well and truly a total a foreigner.
In a discussion with the Arch Bishop ,a plan emerged, to make the St. Josephs Convent at Idgah , then a co-ed school (Bhopal's Best), as an all girl's school over a ten year period. The then Mother Superior of the Idgah Convent was sold the idea.
July 1965 saw the boys of 3 classes being plucked and transplanted in the newly opened Campion. The process of transplanting boys continued till 1974 when Campion emerged with a primary section starting with KGI and ending with Standard
