My association with Mohan started in 1969 when I joined Campion School in Class-VII. Initially I held him fin extreme awe since my previous experience with School Head Boys had been really bad. They were considerd as spies for the School Management and always threw their weight around and even sought personalfavours.
What a refereshing change it was to meet with Mohan. Very tough on the exterior yet truly motivating and always leading by example. Several school mates and I often sought support from Mohan in issues concerning the Scouting especially during the outstation trips for our Camps.
Simply put, in Mohan we all saw a clear reflection of Father More who trusted him to the hilt. Father More would simply see the initials of Mohan in our Boys Scouts diary to indicate if we had passed a particular Scouts' Test and then he would sign it without any further queries.
Even in financial matters ( like running the canteen of the school ) Mohan had a free hand and I remember him choosing me to assist him for a while when one of the other boys was absent.
Mohan too trusted us totally and we would faithfully deposit the cash collected upon sale of Cokes, Marie Biscuits and ofcourse the very small round cookies - which were 100 pcs for 1 Rupee.
Always encouraging, and providing a sense of safety and security, Mohan was as respected and sought after by the Faculty as by the student community. I lost contact with Mohan for more than 25 years. Though this makes me rather sad, but I am glad that in the last few years we have been in regular touch and it was a real pride and pleasure to have as our family guest a few times while he was posted in Delhi in 2007-2008.
Mohan Gidwani is from the class of 1969 and many will remember him as the Troop Leader of Air Scouts and the School Captain (1968-69)
